  • NMA General Counsel Martha Marrapese presented the EPA Nanomaterial Reporting Rule at the Nanotechnology Standards Panel Meeting on March 20, 2018.

  • May 16, 2017 - EPA released its draft guidance document asking for public comments by June 15, 2017.
  • May 8, 2017 - EPA extended the effective date of the TSCA 8(e) reporting and recordkeeping rule for certain nanomaterials from May 12, 2017 to August 14, 2017.
  • April 25, 2017 - NMA submitted comments to EPA on how the 8(e) rule impacts the Regulatory Reform Agenda.
  • April 13, 2017 - NMA wrote a letter to EPA Administration Pruitt requesting that EPA stay the effective date of the rule until July of 2017.
  • April 6, 2017 - NMA filed comments to the Small Business Administration in response to the Trump Administration Executive Order "Reducing Regulation and Controlling Regulatory Costs".
  • March 31, 2017 - In response to a Department of Commerce request, NMA filed comments on the effect of regulations on domestic manufacturing.
  • March 10, 2017 - NMA held a meeting with its membership outlining the impact of the 8(e) rule and options for how to respond.  You can review the powerpoint presentation given here.

  • January 12, 2017 - EPA released its final rule which you can read here.

  • March 16, 2016 - NMA submitted a followup letter to EPA summarizing our February, 24, 2016 face to face meeting noting that "significant clarifications and a reduction in scope are necessary."  You can read a full copy of those comments here.
  • February 24, 2016 - NMA met with EPA to discuss our comments on their proposed Nano 8(a) rule and pressed EPA to take our comments into account when finalizing the rule.

  • January 5, 2016 - NMA Members hold their initial 2016 strategy conference call to discuss options for working with EPA on finalization of the 8(a) rule.  Information on joining NMA can be found at our Join Us! page.

  • November 25, 2015 - EPA announced today as part of its unified agenda that it hopes to have the Nano 8(a) rule finalized by October, 2016.  You can read the Federal Register notice here.

  • May 18, 2015 - NMA holds initial conference call with membership to begin drafting comments to EPA.  Comments to be submitted by August 5, 2015.

  • March 9, 2015 - Environmental groups sue EPA over failure to regulate nano materials; see article.
  • November 2014 - website launched.

  • October 22, 2014 - "InsideEPA" reports that EPA's nanomaterials rule will likely include the "first-time definition of nanomaterials for regulatory purposes."

  • October 7, 2014 - It was reported by "InsideEPA" that EPA has "reached a compromise with the White House Office of Management & Budget (OMB) on how to gather data on nanomaterials, and will first seek information on nanomaterials already in commerce."  EPA is planning a broad rulemaking that would require industry to give EPA information on its nano products before they enter the market.  This will be the first rule directed at nanomaterials as a class.​
